Sparrowhawk at nest

by David Kjaer

Taken from a hide (24feet of scaffold) erected by a Gamekeeper friend in North Yorkshire. The bird at the nest is a female and she did infact have four chicks although only three are visible.

Canon EOS 1N + 70-200f2.8 on Provia 100 (Rated at 160 and pushed one stop) and scanned on a Nikon Super Coolscan 5000ED

Wow, fantastic shot, David. These kind of photos are all too rare these days. Love the intimacy between the Hawk and her chicks. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Great shot David. Did you have to climb to the hide? Love the eye level position here and I am always looking up at these nests.

Only three chicks? - looks like twenty three! Fantastic shot. Perhaps a little crop off the right?

Wow, this is a treat! Quite a "wingful" for the parents.

I like the comp as is.

Terrific image. I love the way the three babies are all focused on the tip of their parent's beak.

Brilliant shot!! I like the intimate setting a lot. :toast: :toast:

I watched an osprey raising two chicks all summer at a park two blocks away from my home ... but the nest was too high up .. and no helpful friend around either
