A small ant

This was a really small ant. About 1/8".
He was walking on rhododendron flower and wondering how big the world was around him.

This is full frame and I was wondering if you would have suggestion for cropping. Not sure if it needs any. I like sort of like it the way it is but the ant is almost in center.

Any thoughts? Feel free to post cropped version.

I have used Canon 20D, Canon 180mm, 1.4X extender, EF 25 II extension tube, MT-24EX flash, tripod.

EXIF: ISO 100, F9, 1/1250

Thanks for looking.

l like the composition as is, no crop needed, IMO. DOF is excellent. I might try and tone down the hot spot just to the right and a little below the ant.

This is really cool! I don't think it needs a crop. I would clone out the little black spots below the ant.

I feel the comp is fine as it is. Losing some off the bottom would probably be fine too. This is a really cool shot. The ant's pose is perfect. So is the BG and DOF.

I second cloning out those dark specks.

Hello Karel this is just superd and the pose of the ant is spot on. I would tone down the bright spot behind the ant, other than that this is a very strong image. :wavey:

Karel, I wouldn't crop this image at all. I would eliminate the two specks on the flower but otherwise, quite stunning.

Just marvellous love it I almost wish the background were a little bit sharper but then of course depth of field would limit your choice of apertures. Cracking shot.

Beautiful shot, Karel. I think this is great just as it is. Comp certainly works for me. Really nice job. I have almost the same set-up as you for this shot and I haven't come anywhere close to pulling off something as good as this.

Karel,

I really like this image. I don't mind the ant being centered. it looks like something Pixar would have used for the cover of a movie! it gives the viewer a new perspective on a bug's life. good work!
