Whispers in the sky

I found these rocks whilst wandering on the moors last night. The clouds lit up for just a couple of minutes and I managed to find this composition just in time. Critiques appreciated, thanks Tristan

Kah is right, sky and foreground complement each other nicely, very well composed. Love the lines and colors. Maybe I would prefer the upper rock a bit darker, it looks as if you dodged there to compensate the grad ND

Thanks Carsten - I've burned that rock back just slightly. Tristan

Wonderful image quality.

I love how the colors compliment each other and the subtle lead from the bottom rock to the illuminated thin cloud. Really well executed.

Fantastic foreground, right here. It leads the eye to the beautiful sunset, let's it wonder forth and back. Love the flowers as well. Very good photo, I can't find anything to criticise

Very nice cloud-control, Tristan. Also like how the heather envelops the stones. Nicely seen and shot.

The colors in the clouds and rocks complement each other in a beautiful way!

Dramatic cloud, zen like rock placement, great texture and color, moody shadows in the foreground. Mysterious and excellent. The dodging on the rock doesn't bother me, but the dodging in the flowers catches my eye as a little uneven, but that is a minor critique.

Classicaly beautiful. The fade to black at the top and bottom make me think of old film reels.

Must have been a still night for a 13sec exposure on the moors, not a flicker of movement on that grass! I find the stones a little too centrally aligned, I want to kick the stone to the left a little but I guess it was rather secure(!) but that is a fine display of heather you have there and the medium fomat crop brings the image together nicely. Not as good as your recent lone knarly tree stuff (which I was able to catch up with when in Edinburgh) but competant with realistic colours. Glad to see you are much more active again as I alway like to see the Yorkshire Moors, especially now I have some idea what they are like from my recent trip.

Hi Tristan,

The thing I like best about this photo is the balance in brightness between the foreground and the sky - to my eye neither dominates and they work extremely well together.

Thanks for sharing this...

At first glance I felt this was too dark/dreary to allow the flowers in the fg to pop. But the more I look the more I really like the mood and comp. It is nice to see an image not overdone in PS as this looks very natural. Congrats on the EP :toast:
