Poetic Symmetry

This is an image I passed over only to come back to now. I was going through shots from the last time I shot this location a month ago. I'm headed back and wanted to look at some images to get some ideas for shooting this time. Anyway, I saw this image and thought it had potential.

This is somewhat of an experimental shot, I was experimenting with capturing movement in the waves, and I was experimenting with processing techniques as well. This is the result from the experiments.

Zach,

Beautiful, coastal sunset. The receeding lines on the beach really make this a nice image. I might be inclined to crop some of the darkest areas of the sky at the top; this would really help emphasize the beach even more.

Nice scene, and great wave action. The crop version is way better, it was quite dark on the original.

Sweet shot Zack. I love the two prominent lines of clouds and surf that meet along the horizon. :toast:

The sweeping diagonal lines of the surf and clouds juxtapose very well. The large sea stacks act as a perfect anchor for a masterful composition. Well done!

I like the stillness and movement combined in this image. I also like the fact that you can see some of the stones on the beach beneath the flowing water.

Well Zack, I would say your "experiements" are coming out quite well. This is a very cool image! Definite keeper in my book. The 2nd is my favorite of the two.

Experiments fail, but not this one  The patterns in the water is great -a main subject here for me. That sky is also great. I am not sure, but maybe warming the lower half so it fits a bit more the colour-theme of the sky..? Just a thought.

Simply superb - I really like it. Amazing how much difference a simple crop can make - I think it works much better than the original. Tristan

glad you came back to it - love the crop too. I think it gives the picture more balance and allows your eye to stay centred - great image

I think the small crop is a nice improvement. Overall I also think your experiment was a great success. Lines in the clouds go really well with the receding water lines. Normally I wouldn't give a second thought to the largely silhouetted rocks, but next to the relatively brighter shoreline it kind of throws things off for me. If you could pull a little more detail out of the sea stacks or darken the shoreline a little, I think it would be perfect. Nice experiment!

Zack,

I like the crop. The change is subtle, but yet important - I think. Well done.

Excellent coastal shot. I like how the water motion is echoed by the linear direction of the clouds, a very effective ingredient in seascapes I think.
