One of passions is watching and photographing Roe deer. This is the resident buck patrolling his territory during the rutting season.
All comments always welcome and appreciated.

12 commentsAwesome lighting and colours! Great composition too! I noticed you said full frame at 350mm, so you must have been pretty close (were you in a hide/blind?) considering it was during the rut!
Thanks for the comment.
No I didn't use a hide because the deer tend to use a fairly large area so I could never be certain exactly where they would be.
On this occasion I particularly wanted to get an image of the buck in this particular spot, he was wandering around his territory and was going from one particular area to another. Because I had been watching him over several months I had an idea where he might be heading and thought/hoped there was a chance he'd pass through this particular spot, which thankfully he did. So it was just a matter of getting into position before him.
I just stood quietly behind my tripod with a gorse bush to break up my outline and a piece of army scrim netting thrown over the camera/lens.
That's impressive - knowing the habits of the deer well enough to position yourself for such a close shot. It's a terrific shot of the buck, but what really makes the shot is capturing the subject in such a colorful location.
