Spray Lakes, Kananaskis Alberta

I finally got out to do a bit of shooting this morning. This area got my attention due to the cool root formations and cracked ground. I had little colour to work with (because I had no location scouted out...since it has been so long since my last trip...missed the magic light) so I figured this was a fitting image for a bw conversion due to the subject matter. I'm curious to hear some comments on this one!

Simply an outstanding capture. I love what you have done with the B&W. The composition with the crazy long surface roots and the solid background is also superb.

Killer shot Wayne, thanks for sharing.

Pretty nice, Wayne! The upper comp is good, I like the light and contrast. The lower comp adds a nice element of different subject matter.

Oh wow, I love the juxtaposition of the bare land and dead stumps against the lake and mountains. Really superb.

Great outcome given non-ideal lightning conditions. I am about to conclude that every kind of light is good for photography. As long as there is light - there is something a film or a sensor can record. The rest is up to the photographer and artist.
Great work!

Wayne,

This image is Outstanding! For me, this transcends today's digital b&w processing and I can envision this as a masterpiece in the days of film developing, darkroom processing, and silver gelatin prints.

Aside from the processing, I think this is perfectly composed and a very thoughtfully crafted image. the detail front to back is incredible. I absolutely love everything about this image.

I'm actually quite perplexed as to why this hasn't received more comments.

Man, I love this! that foreground root and stump is killer! One of my favorite black and white shots I've seen in a while.

Stunning B+W. The composition is perfect. Many great elements captured from the cracked mud to the roots/stumps to the light on the mountains. Great idea. Well captured.

What a well preconceived and processed image. I absolutely love the dynamic nature and tones of this image. There's lots of interest and great separation due to the natural layers and tones found throughout. It's like the perfect marriage of two distinct images between the top and bottom. Excellent work!

Hi Wayne,

Congratulations on the EP!!

It's a superb composition and b&w conversion. I know you have a good eye for leading lines and there are some subtle but highly effective ones at work here: the line of stumps leading away to the peak at left; the fg roots bring order to the fg with the one pointing my eye directly toward the peak at right and the other nicely parallel to the water's edge. Fantastic textures in all parts of the image.
