A snow storm powdered the Maroon Bells over the late evening of September 28-29. I had not planned to make the dawn shoot after returning to Aspen from a weekend Denver wedding. But as I was awakened at 3:30 am to wet streets, I checked the weather updates and I decided to make the ride out to the lake. From the parking area, I could see in the moonless night that the bells were brighter than surrounding horizon suggesting snow cover. My original choice of setting up over a pond closer to the mountain was checked by Bear warnings, so I found a spot near the far end of the lake. What a beautiful morning!
