This loon was photographed on Lake Abanakee in the Adirondack mountains of NY. It was photographed with a Canon 20D and a Canon 100-400 IS lens. AV mode 1/100 sec f5.6. A family usually build their nest (for the past ~7 years) on a little tiny "island" but the past two years the town has kept the water levels too high and the island has been flooded and the loons have not nested/had chicks.
