The 22 acres that John Wayne Marina was built on in 1985 was donated to the Port of Port Angeles in Sequim Bay, near the city of Sequim, on the Olympic Peninsula, in the state of Washington by the Wayne family because of John Wayne's love of the area. The marina was voted "Best in the West" of small marinas by Sea Magazine in 2003.
