I'm having issues with red and or green one pixel lines showing up in my scans (not always) - I use a Microtech 4000t slide scanner and Vuescan software. I've tried blowing some canned air thru unit, re-seating sccsi cable...
Starting to bug me is an understatement.
Thanks for any info here..........

The only time I've seen anything similar (on my old Nikon LS-2000), I needed a firmware update to keep pace with my new computer operating system. Have you checked both Microtechand Vuescan sites?

I had the same thing happen to my Epson 4870 flatbed. After contacting Epson tech support and posting the issue on a few forums, the prognosis was terminal and the scanner was retired. Hope you come up with a better diagosis for your scanner.

I had a similar problem with my Minolta scanner the funeral was a while ago so I am over it but no more scanners for me. When I want a digital image of a photograph or slide I get a good printed image of the photograph, mount it and then take a digital image with my camera. The quality is great and I have one less piece of hardware to worry about.

I seem to remember something similar a few years back with Vuescan in combination with the Minolta 5400. IIRC it was a Vuescan bug, but I could be wrong here.

Do you still have the manufacturer supplied scan software that you could try to see if the lines still appear when using that ?

Yes, I still have the original software, but its clunky horrible stuff. As a temporary solution, I've discovered that by creating a 1 pixel healing brush, I can click on on eend of the line, then holding down the shift key, click the other end of the line.... The healing brush goes down the length of the line and eliminates it. There are occasional issues where two contrasting edges meet, so sometimes I have to do the 'heal' in sections to prevent the off results.....

I had a similar issue for a while with my Nikon Coolscan 4000. The problem occurred when I saved an image to an external drive, though the same image saved at the same time to an internal drive was fine. The problem seemed to happen when the external drive had just been turned on, or when it was turned off just after saving the scan. It may also have been a Firewire issue. In any case, the problem went away without my needing to do anything to the scanner itself. I now have my externals connected by USB or SATA cables, and I'm very careful to (1) switch off the external drives following the proper (Windows) procedures, or (2) not switch them off until after the computer has powered down.

I had this happen to me on several Minolta film scanners. The cause was dead pixels in the scanning sensor. I sent 3 scanners back to Minolta and gave up on Minolta scanners entirely. Your issue sounds just the same.

I'm not familiar with Minolta scanners, but is it possible that there is a piece (or pieces) of crud on the scan sensor head? A cleaning might be a place to start to try to isolate the problem.

I'm going to try a new Scuzzy cable this weekend.... the lines can be red OR gree or both, and don't seem to be in the same places of the scans.

I had this happen on my Epson flatbed recently. It was the result of roller marks on the negs from the machine processing. The lines aren't visible just looking at the negs but do show up under a decent loupe and in the scans.
