Metadata Issue in Lightroom 2.0

I'm stumped here. In Lightroom 1.0, when you worked on a raw file, the edit/tif copy would automatically have the metadata from the Raw file copied over such as tags and copyright info.

In ver. 2.0, the TIF file is not automatically copying over the tags/copyright data thereby requiring a manual metadata sync between the edit copy and the original raw file.

Is there some setting that I need to flip or is this now how the new 2.0 LR works? I liked when I did not have to worry about it.

suggestions?

Hey fancy meeting you here...
maybe you need to put a check in a box somewhere?
just a w.a.g. on my part... :wavey:

I think this is the default behavior for LR2. I don't know if there is a preference for automatic export of the metadata back to the original file. LR2 is basically caching all the metadata in its database and is not writing changes back out to the original file until you choose to export it manually.

Walter, when I import the raw files, I input all the id tags and copyright info so it is embedded in the image. it shows up in the data fields on the raw file. but if I edit the file and save the edited file as a tif, the tags and copyright info disappear from the tif file. It still has the exif information; it's just the data that I added on the import. it didn't use to do this

Send a help request to the folks at napp - www.photoshopuser.com. They're very helpful and great with all PS and LR questions. I can't tell you how useful I find napp. I'm still waiting for Scott Kelby's LR2 book to ship - I pre-ordered it. While I've studied some web material re: LR2 - including tutorials on the napp site - none of them are as complete as a text. Try the napp help desk - I'll bet you'll get an answer quickly. Or contact tim grey at tim@timgrey.com. He has a ddq (digital darkroom questions) daily newsletter that's also useful.

Hi Michael. Go into Edit>Catalog Settings. On the Metadata tab, make sure the box Automatically write changes into XMP is checked. This will ensure that any information you add is carried over to your exported TIFF and will be available to view in, for example, PS.
