Lightroom Question

I'm sure the answer is simple, but I'm a new to Lightroom and can't figure it out. Recently I began having issues with a virus on my computer. It was bad enough that I could only boot the computer in Safe Mode. One of the first things I did before things got worse was to move all my recent images that were on the computer hard drive to my external hardrive. The virus issue has been fixed, but now when I open Lightroom, its still looks for those images where they were stored on the computer hardrive. In the Library module, it still displays the previews/thumbails. But if I want to work on an image in the Develop module, Lightroom says it can't find the image. Now I'd just as soon leave them on the external HD as it is where I will store all my images for the long term. How do I tell Lightroom where to find them now if I want to go back and work on them? Do I need to re-import them? I'd like to keep all my Keyword Tags. If it matters I'm still using Lightroom 1.4.1. Thanks for any help.

Hi Doug, No need to re-import. You should be able to right-click on one of the images that it can't find and choose to find it. Then just navigate over to where the file is and it should re-locate most if not all of your images. You can also do this in the folder view area and have it find an entire top-level folder. Sorry if this isn't specific enough. I'm traveling and am on someone else's computer right now so I don't have access to my Lightroom.

Erik is right. Right click on the folder in the Library module and you should see an option to Find Missing Folder. When you select that, a box will come up that lets you point to the new location of the folder. Find the folder(s) on your external drive, click OK and you're done.

You might want to look at upgrading to LR 2.x. It handles offline images and allows you to move images to archives yet still maintain the associations in LR. That was a downfall of LR 1.x

That did it. You guys are great. Was hoping to upgrade to LR 2.x for Xmas this year, but it wasn't to be. Patience Grasshopper. :toast:
