I have a question. Does anyone use PhotoDex Corp. ProShow for their slideshow presentations? I just upgraded to Producer 4.0 about a month ago from 3.0 and now the program will not accept my Canon Raw photo files (CR.2 file format). Seems strange that the upgrade would lose that ability.
I contacted support and sent them an image to test and basically they said, "yeah, your right." So now I have to covert them to jpegs before I can put them in my slideshows. An extra step that I don't always have to make, especially if I have adjusted the raw file in Lightroom.

Anyway, it's kind of a pain. Anyone have input on what I may be doing wrong or a fix other than converting the images?

If Photodex has tested it and can't get to work either then it sounds like you're cooked. I've never tried bringing RAW files into ProShow because I want to use a finished product.

I use ProShow Producer 4.0 and also use Lightroom. I either use the ProShow plugin for Lightroom or use a batch export into a jpg format from Lightroom before I put the images in ProShow. Both scenarios are quite quick and efficient from my perspective, but if you don't have Lightroom, then putting images in jpgs first would take more time. I can't quite imagine that you would want to put RAW files in directly as they would be, well....raw, totally unprocessed. Raw files aren't really meant to be viewed but rather processed and then viewed. Just my $0.02

Erik,

Thanks, I forgot about the plug-in for Lightroom! I just downloaded the newest version and it works great!

I'm glad yo solved the problem. However, I would add that for most applications jpeg is better for slide shows. This is due to the sRGB and 8 bit file type. By far most LCD digital projectors will show a better image if it is first converted to jpeg, sRGB, and resized to the resolution of the projector. While you can do it by letting the software and projector interpolate, the results are better if you do it yourself.

Mike,

I use Proshow Producer as well. I never brought in my RAW files either. Just JPEGS. Never saw the reasone to bring in RAW since they would have to be adjusted anyway. Don't worry though, Photodex will probably fix it and issue a free update.
