And yet another Hawk Owl in flight shot. Same bird as in all the other photos. I think I spent almost a month with this same bird. I don't think I'll be going back for more. I doubt I'll get anything different than what I already have.

Nikon D300
Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 (VR turned off)

Hal, I like the bird's position and the BG a lot. Nice look at the eye too. Curious why you would turn the VR off? From the 720px version the bird looks just short of tack sharp. Overall, very nice.

It was an experiment. I was trying out new settings for my D300 from a blog on the net. According to the blogger, who shoots sports, the VR is not really needed if you have quick shutter speed, and that the VR actually slows the focusing a bit because it has to stabilize the picture. However, I don't think shooting sports can be categorized the same as birds. However, the full original size is tack sharp. Maybe it's too much compression.

I think you have captured a nice wing position and whilst i do like these head on shots its make a nice change to view one from the side. I know the text is to protect your image but purple does draw the eye from subtle tones held within this image.

Would Love to see on of these as well. Now is it a hawk or is it an owl? Great breed. I like this one alot since there is eye contact but the others were cool as well

I like this, and the only suggestion I have is to maybe use the fill light adjustment to bring a little more light in the darker areas and sharpen a bit more for the web.
