Island in the Stream

Sorry for the title. Had a redo! Went out Sunday on a very cold, blustery, windy AND beautiful morning. This stream feeds a lake just a couple hundred yards away. I've driven by it literally a thousand times, but didn't take the time to stop and check it out from the bridge above. I thought the gentle curve, the crystal clear water, the shadows from the trees, and the tiny footprints in the snow near the top made this a decent image to post. Larger version too. ISO-80, 1/200th and f-4.0... hmmm. Thanks for looking and any comments.

This is hard to critique. Technically it looks fine, exposure-wise and comp-wise. The bend in the stream is nice. It conveys the scene well. Just doesnt have any 'X' factor for me, doesnt really hold my interest. One of those scenes that look pretty in person but are tough to convey in a photograph--ive been there! Maybe concentrating on a smaller sub-section would have helped--i dunno. :wavey:

Hey Stan, don't worry, I fully understand what you mean about the "X" factor to bring it beyond the normal. And you are exactly right in your thought about being there and translating that feeling into a photo--glad to know it's not just me!

Anyway, I did shoot some little scenes from this area, a couple I like. Thanks for looking and your comments are always appreciated. :toast:

Looks like you did good for what it is. We have a lot of areas like this around here that are neat to explore but tough to photo. I've found it takes a lot of patience and creativity to get a shot from an area like this with that "wow" effect. One idea for this shot would be to experiment with long shutter speeds in softer light.

Thanks Taylor! Know what you mean. And I got a late start that morning, but at least now I know what's down there now. Shot some different abstracts and small scenes from this position too... for later.
