SPLASH!

After shooting the Palouse last weekend, I took Monday off from work and headed to the coast for sunrise. Conditions werent perfect, but we had a great time shooting and scouting.

This image was shot as the tide was coming in. This is just below where Mark M shot his vantage point...and let me tell you...this is a precarious spot. This sneaker wave came in and soaked Jeremy and I to the bone! I got off this exposure just as the wave was about 2 feet from my camera. After it hit me, my camera immediately began rapid firing exposures. I turned my camera off and moved away from the tide to dry everything off. When I tried to look at my pics, the LCD wouldnt turn on. I was a little worried, but this has happened to me about 4 or 5 times before. After about 30 minutes, the screen came back on, and I was back in business!

Wow, I don't know if I'd put my camera at such risk.. at least you got a fantastic shot for it! Perfect shutter speed too.

I've shot this spot a dozen times and never posted anything from it yet. Mostly because I don't have anything this cool!

This is one of the nicest shots from this area I have seen Rick... even if it took one of the 9 lives away from your camera!

Thanks for the comments! Aaron, I have had this D2X for approx 5 years. That dern thing keeps ticking, no matter how much I abuse it! It kinda looks like the equivelent of an old, tired, matted up front porch mutt  . BTW...its for sale...errrr, ummm...almost new?!?

Bruno, thanks for finding that dust spot for me...I see it now.

Steve...omg! that's funny! Gross, but funny

I will post up a color version for comparison. These cliffs are redish/yellow striped... I just need to do a little more processing on the color one to do them justice...

Can't add much that anyone hasn't said already. I do find the tonality on the back of the arch to be rather light in relation to the rest of the rocks. SWEET wave action.

Rick,

Awesome! Already been said, but "In your Face!" was my first reaction too. Fantastic b&w representation too!

IMO, there is no such thing as "sneaker waves." The correct term is: Oblivious People.

An amazing story to go with the amazing image! Great job with the B&W processing and wow are you lucky to get your camera back after that! If it wasn't obvious already, I think you've seriously crossed over the line into the pro realm when you sacrifice your camera to get the perfect shot! Cheers to that! :toast: :toast:

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm rolling out of my chair laughing! Behind the scenes Rick and I had been discussing telling each other where a secret location of ours was (sharing one he has and one I had). I'm not sure if you shot this after I told you or before, but I am laughing hard 'cause you killed it man!!! :toast:  :toast:

This is a dangerous spot, and (folks seeing this) DO know what your doing before trying anything like you see here! The least you can easily lose is your camera functions.

Salt water kills the camera man, so you might be out in that respect, but geeze it was worth it!

Top to bottom I love it and you can't be jealous anymore!
