Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, MT... sometimes you get lucky with great conditions on an overnighter backpacking trip. I wasn't initially sure about the 'split' comp here, but it really grew on me as I processed the image. Others C&C is appreciated. See LARGER VERSION for best detail.

Canon 5d2, 16-35/2.8 @ 23 mm. ISO 100. f/16. 2 exposure blend.

Nice detail and pretty sweet light for sure. The reflection on the left looks a little 'nervous' but nothing to do about that. The fg seems a little flat for some reason.
I like the split composition. I think they work well for reflections in most cases. I guess they get bad press because they are not very original, but hey if it works and in this case it does. Nice work Doug.

Incredible light Doug and spectacular image. I like the curve of the foreground rocks and shore line arcing back towards the mountains. Don't think the 50:50 comp is an issue; it works very well in your image and is actually less noticeable with those foreground rocks. Must have been a super pack trip.

After looking at the larger image the split isn't an issue. You and Jesse seem to have hit this just right. I've been here like Jeremy has without the great light. After looking at both of your posts on this, I like this one better. I feel like I can see more detail in the image and Black Mountain is more a part of the image. One of my favorite places for sure. Great work Doug.

Strong comp, feels balanced, it works great for me. There are lots of details to look at and the light on the BG peaks is lovely. Wonderful and solid photo Doug.

I like this. The colors of the mountains are sure sweet as is their reflection. The large lump in the middle is a bit distracting maybe, but not overly so. Foreground looks great.

This looks terrific Doug, the details in the shot are excellent as is your choice of composition.

The beautiful reflection and colors to the left tends to pull me there, but there's enough interest in the rest of the image to keep me from getting stuck. The little reflection in the R foreground is especially cool.

Comp is a little spread out, but i like it. Some nice light, even if the sky isnt the greatest. I think this is one of those shots not really worth picking apart though, id just enjoy sittin back and soaking it in--a great mountain scene!

I like it Doug. The split seems to work OK here. Sometimes it is OK to break composition "rules"
the light is nice

Great light and color. I didn't even notice the split until I read your post and I don't consider it an issue here. Nicely done.

The large version really sings! My eye flows through the image wonderfully. I particularly enjoy the tension caused by the closeness of the mountain reflection to the shoreline in the LLC... nice attention to detail.

I like the symmetry here Doug. While the foreground split rock confounds the reflection, I think it adds a lot of interest to the overall image. Fantastic find and capture.
