I posted a companion shot of this bird on July 31st. While I liked the colorful bg and the detail in the bird, the pose seemed a bit static. Unfortunately, this is the only other pose he gave me. I still think it's a bit static, but I'm interested in which one is more appealing.

7D, 500mm f4 + 1.4TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f6.3, 1/2000, iso 400, Av mode with -1/3 compensation. Cropped to 76% of the original. Normal processing in CS4. Taken at 7:21 pm on July 30th.

I always appreciate your critiques.

Thanks for looking,

Very nice Dennis, I like the OOF multi-color BG. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice. I love the juvie plumage of this bird, and the background colors are interesting as well. I would probably have placed the bird a little higher and a touch more towards the left to lessen the feel of emptiness in the top left.

A gorgeous capture Dennis. I love the detail as seen best in the larger image. Of course that OOF BG is outstanding as well and really compliments the main subject.... nice perch also. Very nice!

Another nice one of this bird, Dennis. I agree with you about the poses being a little static, but I think I do like this one a bit better. I think that his downward look here adds a little interest, making me curious about what he's looking at. As with the first one, detail, bg, and perch are excellent.

Nery nice shot, Dennis. Perhaps a bit too centered, but with an awesome BG :toast:

Very nice - although I'd place the bird a little higher plus brighten a tiny bit.

Looks as if fall has started already, beautiful BG and good sharpness. I might put the bird a bit higher in the frame.

Dennis, what an awesome BG and the bird is nice too. A bit centered for me, but still a really nice shot.

Hi Dennis,
Both are nice shots but I having trouble seeing any significant difference between the two images other than a very slight head position.

It's a lovely image Dennis - very sharp with an interesting background and nice perch. "Static" doesn't bother me here though I agree with the comp suggestions.

For those that wanted the bird a bit higher in the frame, this is all there was without adding canvas to the bottom, and my skills aren't up to extending the plant. This ended up being a bit tighter crop.

Gorgeous background and I do think I like the repost better. However, I would be happy with either one. I don't mind static. The birds are always moving so sitting still once in awhile is a treat.

I like the richness of the colors, Dennis. We have to take what we can get, so static is fine here. Well done.

The shot is all about the colors, Dennis. I don't think the bird's pose detracts at all. The bird's colors complement the colors in the background, and make what might otherwise be an overwhelming background work. Well see and well captured.

The cheery background seems a bit at odds with his downtrodden expression, too bad he didn't look up a bit. Such a lovely image in all other ways. I like this one the best, techs seem a little better to my eye.
