Glacial Surf & Sky

Lake Sherburne reflects some amazing colors during the most colorful sunrise I witnessed during my recent trip to Glacier National Park. I tried several shutter speeds and settled on this one at .5 seconds to show some detail with the surf movement on the lake. The peaks of the Many Glacier area rise behind. 2 stop grad ND filter hard edge, 16, ISO 100. A bit of sky and FG has been cropped for this comp., which looked a bit more balanced, though I hate to cut out wonderful sky and clouds.

Thanks for the look.

Very nice Harry. The sky is super dramatic. I would try to bump up the contrast on the mountains a tad and darken the water a little - minor nits.

This is a beautiful scene, Harry. Very nice light, color and a great sky. Those clouds are impressive. Nice work.

Though in general the whole scene does come together well, I don't think the foreground (despite the nicely presented waves) lives up to the drama in the sky and the beautiful light on the mountains. As landscape photographer, I think we tend to go wide and include foregrounds to a fault. Did you make any exposures featuring only the top half of this morning?

Man, what an incredible sunrise. For my personal tastes, I like the foreground with the wave action as well as the blades of grass poking up. I also like the right triangle you've created.

You had some incredible conditions on your trip Harry, goodness gracious. This is a real pleasure to look at.

Nice one, Herry. It looks like it all came together for you on this shot. The light is right and I like the way it warms up the wonderful foreground. Nice choice of shutter speed.

Kent - Here is an exposure just prior, mostly a sky image. A little bit has been cropped off the bottom to emphasize the sky. 2 stop ND filter hard.

Ron - Many triangles and wedges-FG land, distant land on left, mnts., water, waves. Part of the comp. attraction for me.

Love the dramatic clods, and their color. Also like how the waves are lapping up against the shore. Very nice light.
