For more details, visit the RMNP forum. Basically, this is fron a backpack thu-fri in a remote part of the dune mass. At sunset, the sky lit up crazy pink and i got this shot of the dunes and Crestones (14ers in the distance) that ive been trying to get for a while.
Note: This aint tilted. The land here slopes up to the right (north) if you need reassurance, the clouds in back help

This is great. Love the whole scene but the little details are what makes it, like the patterns in the sand in the darker section to the right.

Beautiful clean lines and great light.

Lovely warm tones Stan, and a really crisp looking image as well. That's one hell of a leading line as well.
Lovely.

Amazing! This is a beautiful photograph, Stan. Great light and shadows. The color is wonderful as is the comp. Really...just beautiful to look at. One of the best I have seen!

A superbly conceived and crafted composition. The crest line of the dune in the foreground is perfectly placed within the frame. Nice series in the RMNP forum as well.

Wonderful light and textures

I am impressed that you got good exposure on the sand and nice color in the sky with one exposure.

The light is very nice here Stan, but it's a toss up between the comp here and the comp of #2 on RMNP. Regardless you got a lot of nice stuff with different comps so you covered your bases well. Sometimes where you find one great image many more can be found in the same area. Congrats on your hard work. Very likable image.

REALLY nice, Stan. You've done a lot of great dune photography, but this is without a doubt one of your best IMO. Great timing with the perfect light both on the dunes and the clouds. The comp gives a nice sense of depth and space. The centered horizon actually works here as it emphasizes the symmetry between dunes and clouds.

Awesome. I looked at the RMNP pics first and thought to myself it would be wonderful if you had a comp with a combination of the mountains in the background, the glowing clouds and the backwards "s" curve catching some stronger light in the foreground. Well, here it is: you perfectly accomplished an image with all of those elements in it. IMO this one is far and above any of the others in RMNP.

You've got some great work over on RMNP, Stan, but this one is a cut above IMO. The sky, the lighting on the foreground dune, and your comp really make this one sing.

Excellent. I like how first the sand pattern and then the leading line lead into the frame.

May I ask what the focal length was here? I'm planning to go on a desert trip soon and wonder which lenses to bring, and this shot nicely illustrates what I'd like to achieve...

Beautiful image, and the presence of the mountains with snow in the BG make it very interesting...The colors are splendid, and I like a lot the darker side of the dune in the foregorund...

Stan: Wonderful play of light and shadow and superb colors. I'm generally critical of this much sky and do think I would like it better with less of it. Didn't want you to get a perfect score you know. Superior image. >=))>

Thanks, John!
OK--i confess--its tilted, in fact, all my photos are tilted in this exact same way, even my level is tilted. Must be my right-brain, it being so big and heavy the gravitational force pulls my camera down on the right side...
