Water Spirit

A similar, but different frame from the Upper Yosemite Falls shots last spring. I approached this one a little more aggressive with the processing. The first one is in my gallery if you wanted to compare. basically, this is the amount of vapor that falls far enough out from the wall to catch some of the sunlight that is getting past the edge of the granite to the left. Also this is probably 500plus feet of the falls here. I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for your thoughts. larger version included.

Thanks,
Chris

The different formations catching the light is cool. Your processing looks good. It's really quite intriguing. :toast:

Hi Chris! Nice B&W image! I have a similar image to this, but I was not there when the water flow was like this! The mist, contrast and texture of the water is very cool.

This is amazing Chris. One of your best images. The title fits perfectly. That water has a soul. So much character and "personality". The bw processing is outstanding.

Fascinating, Chris! It really as if there are ghostly forms coming out of the misty falls. Well seen, and beautiful conversion.

I love the processing in this one, the water looks a lot like billowing smoke. This works really well as a B&W.

Oh, I absolutely love it. At first glance the water can be easily mistaken for smoke or steam. Wonderful patterns and it works beautifully in B&W. This IS fine art photography!

I tend to have an Icon fixation when I visit Yosemite. This photograph is a brilliant example of your vision and skills.

This is really wild! The larger version certainly puts it more in context. I like the wispy, ethereal, movement and especially the light/dark color contrast. Good eye for the light and processing. Very emotive.

Even though they are similar, I like this one more than the previous post. The smoky appearance of the falling water is perfect for the title.

Chris - how did you achieve the B&W conversion? I've always done my own adjustments, but I just today purchased Nik Silver Efex Pro because I've seen so many nice results from others using it. Just wondering how you achieved this excellent result.

Chris,

This is phenomenal! the large version is just stunning. I think perhaps your best of the Yosemite Falls images - at least that I've seen.

You MUST enter this image in the Yosemite Renaissance competition next year!

This is one of the most amazing images of a waterfall I have ever seen, Chris. The delicate structure, almost like flowing fog rather than water, is flat out incredible. Truly outstanding, stunning work. The larger image is a jaw dropper. Phenomenal.

Superb! I notice only one very very minor nit. The area of mist just below the center horizontally and just to the right of the center vertically has a small hot spot which catches the eye just a little bit.

Chris, this is really noteworthy. Very impressive image, and excellent vision to imagine what it might look like. I don't feel very qualified to critique black and white, but I might pull down the blacks at the bottom. With the title "water spirit", I'm prompted to think about a single entity, while the current brightness at the bottom pulls my eye down and out of the frame. Still--exceptionally nice.
