Singleton in a drama

Toroweap Canyon, Northern AZ, sunset in November

We spent a very interesting evening there with Marc Adamus and Chris Moore. I was enticed by this spot from well before the light came in and missed more dramatic amazing shot Chris and Marc ran to - 100 meters away. There are multiple variations I have taken in course of 2 hours, some in breaks between bouts of rain and some during sunset.

C&C very welcome.

Processing is done with LR and some in Photoshop.

Hmm--i like the general idea here but i think it needs some refinement. The rock lines are neat, but im wondering if theres a bit too much fg in relation to the dramaatic bg skies. I also think the brightness seems a bit high overall, given the color in the clouds--though i suppose part of that is the whiteness of the rocks. Looks like a neat spot!

Beautiful rock lines leading into that gorgeous sky. The terrain looks too bright to me in relation to the sky. Tone that down and I think you have a winner!

I agree with Lori and Stan's assessment.
While this is nice enough, I've been here several times and can't help but think that you missed the shot of a lifetime by not being on the canyon's edge for this stunning light show.

Very interesting to see the same sunset (albiet different colors, composition, etc) from different photogs. Yours is definitely the most realistic Vlad, but I'm not sure that even matters any more. ;]

Compositionally speaking, this has some appeal to it with the rocks as leading lines. The sky is definitely amazing no doubt. The only thing that is getting to me is this seems awfully soft considering the camera and lens you were using. Perhaps it is due to noise removal of some type or perhaps the f20 with a bit of camera shake?

Feels like bones. I could see adding a bit more saturation to the browns, to match that in the sky.

It's interesting to me anyway, that Nic would say this is somehow more "realistic" a capture of the scene that evening when it's not nearly as saturated or dark as what we saw. Perhaps this was as the colors were fading. I think going with the rest of the comments on this one, darkening the foreground and getting more out of the RAW in the sky would be effective. Good job isolating the strong lines here.
