Sunrise Wavelet

Best viewed in a darkened room

I was out this past Saturday morning to shoot sunrise on the beach, and while it was a glorious morning to be outside, photographically sunrise was somewhat of a dud with no clouds, no wonderful color. I did notice however, there was a beautiful orange glow on the water just as the sun cleared the horizon, so I set up quickly and started shooting the small waves as they were coming ashore. I only shot about 25-30 frames before the glow was effectively gone, but I did like this one a lot. This is one exposure, no blend. I would really like to know your thoughts on this.

Please view LARGER version for much greater detail.

This is so nice to look at, Bill. I love the way the light is hitting the wave, and the tops of the splash look fantastic. With the warm glow of the reflection and the wonderful detail in the sand this is just beautiful to me. Easy to see why you like this one a lot, I do too! It has a great feel, and what a way to get your day going.

Great recovery Bill. I love everything about this. The warmth of the colors, the motion in the waves, the lines of the composition and the implied sunrise, without actually seeing the horizon or the sun. Bravo on a great capture in one of my favorite places, the Florida Panhandle. I can't say I'm not going to attempt replicating this when I head down again in June. :toast:

This just feels like Florida to me. At the beach the warm sun light, a very lovely capture and a nice catch when the clouds let you down. Its real nice to look at this morning being minus 20 out up here. Thanks for warming me up.Cheers

Very warming indeed Bill, beautiful photo... like the 1/40th as it stops the points of the waves just enough to gather the light. :toast:

I like this very much. I'm trying to decide if I would clone out those two pebbles (or leaves) on the beach or if they add interest. Unique take on a beach sunrise.

This works very nicely, Bill. The larger image does provide the excellent detail you've mentioned too. The stop action in the wave worked perfectly for this scene also. Capturing the sun glow at this intensity had to be a bit touchy, but it looks excellent in this one shot capture....

Bill, I love it for that quintessential feeling of a warm, sunny day full of promise. The bit of light on the breaking wave really makes it for me. If anything I might try to tone down the brightest spot on the beach.

Great way to save the morning shoot, Bill. Its a tough angle to pull off as well, but that leading line on the sand sets the stage for those waves. Like the spray also.

Beautiful Bill. I love the warm and somewhat intense glow of the reflected sun and color. The light hitting the splashes of the wave take this one to the top for me. Just wonderfully captured. No nits or suggestions - just a joy to view.

Very nice. Living 5 miles from the coast, I've taken my fair share of these "sand glow" photos. You've done a great job of limiting the shadows beneath the wave and not over-exposing the highlights. I tend to shoot at a longer speed and therefore don't generally capture the slashing action that you've caught here. Thanks for the idea to increase my shutter speed next time I'm at the beach! :toast:

What an eye you have for spotting good light, Bill. This is so beautiful, but something that would be so easy to miss.

I have to agree, you are in a class by yourself with these intimate coastal scenes! The warmth is wonderful here, and the golden light as sweet as it comes. Really nice!

I just love how the wave spray caught the light. Gorgeous work, Bill! The diagonal comp is very effective, too.
