Calling territorial male Northern Black Korhaan (Eupodotis afraoides). These birds are extremely territorial and especially in summer actively defend their territory against other males. I liked the clearly visible tongue.

Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Botswana
Camera Model Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
Shutter Speed 1/1000 Sec.
Aperture Value f/6.3
ISO Speed 200
Lens EF500mm f/4L IS USM

I like the interesting comp Vincent. I also like the tongue. Some nice detail in the larger version considering the low light image. Overall, a captivating shot.

Vincent: I really like this image. The story is fantastic in the image. The detail (especially evident in the larger version) is great. I like the fact that the bird is not a complete silhouette. Composition is superb. Thanks for sharing this image.

A unique subject for this type of shot, Vincent. The tongue is great. Is this related to a bustard?

Terrific silhouette Vincent and nice to see you posting in another forum! I like the calling pose and the tongue is awesome! The colors and fluffy clouds add a lot to the scene.

Max, it certainly is a bustard species; it's other (former) name is White-quilled Bustard.

Great shot Vincent - if these are as loud as the Red-crested then they'd certainly echo across the plains. Love the golden glow.

cheers
