Mixed Forest Tangle

This is one for Barbara Graham. Her work in the tangles of floral growth has inspired me, but I don't think it's so very easy to do…. The light fascinated me in this one as much as the tangles and the mixture of trees.

D700, 300/2.8, tripod; f 16, 1/30, ISO 800, -0.67 EV. (Was shooting birds moments before, thus the weird settings for landscape/flora on a tripod.
Low angle sunlight in late afternoon in the great PNW.

Thanks Barbara! :toast: Goin' deep (dof) and messy! Love it!

Catherine: The light makes the image in this chaotic scene. I would love to see a larger version to better be able to savor the fine details and especially the textures in the bark. Well seen and captured. >=))>

These are just about the hardest types of shots to compose and effectively capture. I think this is a very fine effort in all respects. The warm light on the background trees is particularly nice.

Catherine:
I think this works quite well. The foreground two parallel slanting trunks contrast nicely with the chaotic jumble bathed in warm lighting in the bg (reminds me of Turner's painting).

the left fg tree slants just enough to effectively lead the eye to that wonderful golden light in the bg. Love it

Beautiful work Catherine. The light makes the image for me but for my tastes it's also a strong composition.

I too am inspired to get out and do some intimate shots like this. The light coming through the trees really makes this for me.

Oh, Catherine, this is just beautiful. The two foreground trees being one way are so strong, and then that beautiful light on the background trees that are either straight or leaning the other way is gorgeous to me. Thank you!!!!

That warm light makes this a magical shot, I think. :toast:
