Very common, but since I'm housebound with wires across the drive due to an ice storm, I had to settle with the backyard birds today!

Works for me as posted. Common birds are worth our time as this image shows.

The two toned backround really adds something here. Nice, nice portrait, beautiful sharpness.

To me the ice covered perch is a huge bonus here, and the finch looks terrific!

Could have sworn this was a Jim Nall photo. They really are showing their colors this time of year. Only wish there was some catchlight in the eye.

I think you've made this commoner look great Sharon. My only reservation is the darker vertical OOF element to the right, but it's minor. Good luck with the ice! And the wires!!

Very nice Sharon. Love the sharp look at this bird and the nice soft color due to the light conditions. The ice coated perch is a great aspect of this IMO. Common yes, but still beautiful and worth shooting for sure.

Hi sharon Yes! A backyard bird. But a very pretty one. And beautifully captured. The icy perch and soft color add to the presentation.

One of the nicest looking house finches I have seen and quite a perch with all that ice, well done.

Love this picture. The ice covered post and the beautiful red of the house finch make this photograph. Great job Sharon.

This works very well for me Sharon. I can feel the cold because of the ice covered perch, love the background and the pose of the finch. I "feel" this image and for me that is appealing. I agree with Rich D, common birds are worth our time as your image shows.

really nice, Sharon. it's too easy to take these common birds for granted--there's plenty of common birds that I don't have good images of. This is a really nice wintery scene. Nice colors and ice and snow too.

Fine looking bird, common or not, Sharon. Very attractive, revealing pose: nice view of the whole bird. Sharp and colorful. I like the ice perch. However, when I first saw it I thought it was a rock with blown highlights. It would be even better if somehow you could show the translucent quality of the ice. Maybe it depends on lighting so much that post processing can't help.
