One of my most beloved shrubs. They flower so early with such a color display! I have the a yellow lowering shrub in my garden. This orange flowering species Is growing in our local Zoo.

Never seen one of these before - quite pretty. I like the diagonal branch here too, and the OOF BG.

Hi Ellen,

This is an interesting species of shrub. Almost looks as though it belongs in the Fauna gallery.

Here, I like the sheen on the red center and the details on some of the dangling, twirling petals (that's what I assume they are  )

Cheers,

Carol

Ellen: Not sure I've seen one of these so it is a treat. Nice light and DOF management especially. >=))>

Well seen and composed Ellen. The BG colours are very complimentary to the bloom.

A fascinating subject Ellen. I've never seen one of these before. Good light, great subject/ground separation, strong diagonal comp. Outstanding image for my tastes.

I just saw my first witch hazel today, and for me that means spring is really coming! I had only my little point-and-shoot, darn it, and it doesn't come close to this (or the other shot a week later). The petals (or whatever they are) going every witch way (pun intended) make these flowers intersesting and hard to photograph well. Yours is excellent, with the deep red of the sharp center fading as it streams out into the petals.

I found this by the search function on this gallery -- a really useful tool. I also tried Google Images, which is loaded with photos, mostly good but nowhere close to the ones at NPN. It reaffirms my thinking that NPN is the place to go, both for excellence and for comments that help us all improve. Thanks!
