Blue-winged Teal Napping

While shooting ducks on a pond is not the most challenging photographic quest, I was anxious to get some experience using my recently purchased 1D Mark IV. There were a group of napping Blue-winged Teals at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Boynton Beach, Fl that where glimmering in the early morning sun that just begged to have their pictures taken. At home, as I was reviewing the morning's shots, I thought that by cropping out the surrounding water and plants, an interesting collage of color and patterns did evolve. I also noticed that the shutter noise did cause my subject to give me a peek.

Really nice close up. Very different than the usual presentation. I love all the detail in the feathers.

Don, I think this is an outstanding comp, with absolutely beautiful color and details. It looks like a painting.

A great intimate shot. This is a pose a painter would do. It's great you could do it photographically. I really like it. And, even though the pose from a distance is, "I'm sleeping", that wide open eye tells us he's still quite alert. Thanks for sharing this image.
