I have neither the equipment nor the skills for good macro captures but how could one resist capturing such an incredible creature? It's New Zealand's endemic weta (mountain tree weta i believe). The original picture is technically not great so I tried to do something different. Some dodging, burning, sharpening and that's what I ended up with. Any comments, suggestions?

Hi Andrius,

I like it. Like the fact that you turned it in b&w. comp is good, the head is quiet sharp, but you get some nice reflections in it( which is weird but pretty somehow) Like the blurred background very much.
All you need is a macro lense , really but even without it you've done a good job.

Keep posting;)

Would have liked to see the original.

The b&w conversion is very good. It adds a sense of mystery. Is this one of the insects they call 'child of the earth"?

I didn't even know insects that they call "the child of earth" but I googled it and they are not the same, although they do look similar and are somewhat related. This insect is call Weta and with several other weta species they form an endemic group that is only found in New Zealand.

Very cool critter. The B&W combined with the spotlit effect works well.
Look pretty scary too
