Bull and Cows

Another image of Elk during the rut in Rocky National Park last fall. This uy was keeping watch on his harem. This bull and his ladies were fairly close to a road in the park so the rangers had to keep rounding up the people with their point and shoots from getting in the face to the elk. A lady that came up behind me really like the lovely horns on the bull. This shot was taken from my pickup. The light was somewhat harsh. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Nice shot Richard. I really like the way this guy is surveying his harem from the higher vantage point. Yes, the light is a bit harsh, but how many of us would have passed this up just because the light is less than ideal?

I like the inclusion of the cows in the frame. Gives him a more regal sense somehow. The harsh light didn't harm this image. The colors and details are very good. He is a handsome dude.

What I really appreciate about this image Richard is that lower lying BG, it gives a great sense of depth. I don't think the light is too harsh and you handled the lighting well. My only nit really is that I find it a bit tight. Since this is cropped I wonder if you can give this guy and his harem a bit more room, which ultimately will result in a less cramped comp?

Really nice shot Richard, I love the depth to it but I agree that a little more room around it might make it even better. :toast:

That is quite a rack on the bull elk. Nice job handling the bright light and I really like the composition showing the rest of the harem to give that sense of the bull watching over things, well done.
