Canon 7D, 1/2000, f5, ISO 800, +2 exp comp, 46%FF, handheld
Crowsnest Pass, Alberta

First time shooting one of these. Just happened to be flying overhead my cabin when I was shooting Juncos.

Dan, I like the flight position of the bird and the nice look at the eye. For me the contrast looks to high and the whites are very bright. There is also a noticable narrow halo around the bird. I would work on getting the contrast down and lowering the whites. Just some suggestions.

Excellent flight position and good job of managing to capture this eagle in flight Dan! I do agree with ROn's suggestions and think they can really improve this image.

Dan,

Seeing and photographing a bald Eagle is always a thrill for me. I hope you get more opportunties with them. The flight pose is powerful as presented and the comp you used works well for my tastes. Some of the whites in the head and tail are too bright and over the 255 level, with those so bright none of the details that might be there show. There is a halo around the eagle and I would resolve that. Contrast does seem too high, perhaps bringing that down some would help. I really love how you got light under the wings.

Ditto (of course) Ron and Mia's comments and suggestions, but wasn't this a thrill? Congratulations!

A toned down version. No much more I could do with the whites. Original image was a bit overexposed. The +2 exp comp works with the crows which are normally flying overhead.
