When is a Weed ......

not a weed ? Apparently, when it's an oxalis. This lovely flower comes in several varieties in our garden centres but, I gather, grows wild in some places and is regarded as a weed.

Canon 400D, 100mm Macro lens, 1/10 sec @ f14, natural light indoors.

A weed, a flowering plant growing in the wrong place  This one is growing perfectly within the frame and the shooter has masterfully captured it. Excellent.

Much like spiderwort. Lovely colors. I especially like your choice of DOF, with enough to keep a reasonable amount of the bloom in focus.

Beautiful capture. I like the POV and detail in the main flower, and the twin OOF nicely balances the comp. Very well done.

Ian: I especially like this comp and the color palette. The placement of the BG bloom is inspired IMO. Really well done.>=))>

As fine a composition as any I've seen Ian. Bill is right as far as I'm concerned, the placement of the bg bloom is inspired. Beautiful subdued color palette and fine detail balanced against a dof decision that matches the mood of the color palette. Exceptional image IMO.

Remember a weed is only a plant you don't want growing in your garden, until then it is a lovely flower ! Beautiful work Ian !

The color palette is terrific and your composition and dof choices outstanding. Oxalis leaves (at least the east coast weed variety) can also be eaten in modest amounts and make a great addition to a salad.

Ian, The point of focus is bang on the pollen pods - just precise. Lovely colors and Oxalis is indeed a lovely flower - sad to see this classified as a weed

Perfect DOF, and beautiful colours. Great comp too, with the upper soft bloom.

Lovely detail and colors, Ian. I would like to see an even tighter composition focused just on the center of the flower. Not a weed IMO ;^)

Cheers,

Carol

I think given this photograph, you could wage an argument against this being just a weed! Beautiful subject, and superb placement and framing with the two flowers relative to each other.

Ian, what a fresh image, full of life: the joy of blooming. A spring atmosphere.
Take care.

A weed is a weed, but this is art in my opinion. Superbly captured and displayed Ian. Wonderful.

I love this shot Ian. Fabulous DOF and wonderful results. I agree with Bill, the placement of the back bloom is inspired. Like no weed that I know!
