I did some spotting and cloning of distracting blemishes, boosted saturation and a little brightening (maybe need more) and contrast. This image is approx 80% of full frame

Olympus E-5
50mm F2 macro
aperture priority
1/100 sec @ F22
-1.0EV
auto ring flash
ISO200
AF
Tripod
center weighted avg. metering

Large version provided

Thank you for any comments and critiques

A really nice helebore for this portrait. Great colour contrast and with your touch-ups it looks great. Only nits would be that it would be nice to see all 5 stamens completely in focus. The only other one being to clone in the leave into the top right to match bottom right as the bg.

Charlie:
Great to see that your floral is getting more artsy! Like the POV and the colors looks good. The overall brightness looks good or maybe the yellow is a tad bright in the 12-2 o'clock portion.

Love the deep red color with the yellow popping out at ya Charlie. Detail/DOF looks great.
Don't think it needs any more on the brightness. I like it as posted, but might've tried another POV that didn't include the OOF near petal. Guess ya could've just pulled the petal and shot it minus one as well ;)
Nice shot :toast:

Thanks all. I shot this particular flower a lot of different ways. This was the one I liked best, but others I like too, so maybe as time goes by I'll post others.

I like the composition in this a lot Charlie as well as the color palette. I'd say your control of the flash is perfect here. If you hadn't of listed it, I wouldn't know if was used. Excellent detail throughout most of the center. No suggestions from me on this one. I like it as posted.

Thanks for your comments, Pat. After you told me the amout of time required to do your focus stackings I decide to get into it with Helicon. I had been thinking this was a real time consuming procedure. I believe I read somewhere that you have done a write up on focus stacking and I need some help getting decent results. Can you point me to your paper or to one that you recommend? Thanks.

Nice angle there, Charlie. Love the deep pinkish purple shade and the vibrant and detail oriented yellows at the center  . You can do stacking in Photoshop CS5 itself. If interested can share how.

Charlie, very nice, very different. I might try to see what a tad more contrast would look like, but I think what you got here was not easy to do. Nice work.

Thanks Ram. I use Elements and will check if stacking is offered in it.

The contrast between the stamen and anthers and the dark petals is great. I like how the anthers seem to be hiding behind the one petal. I too would like to see more of the anthers in focus. The upper right doesn't bother me a bit.

Charlie: Your best Flora shot by far IMO. Terrific management of the colors and dynamic range and the ring flash lit this very well. 2+ thumbs up. >=))>
