Juvenile Harrier Hawk

I photographed this juvenile Harrier Hawk late last summer at Croton Point, New York right as the leaves were beginning to change. This shot was taken in the evening with 3-4 Harriers flying around an open field with blue sky above. This bird hovered close to the ground for a few seconds and the darker trees in the background slowed my shutter speed. Nikon D300s with 300mm f2.8 and 1.4 tc. ISO-640, f-5.6 Shutter 1/400. Thanks for looking your critique and comments are appreciated. Ray

Very nice Ray, I like how the bird is kind of spotlit against that dark bg. The image looks plenty sharp despite the lower shutter speed, well done. :toast:

Very nice. The harrier really stands out against the dark background.

Beautiful light, Ray, and the shutter speed looks like it was adequate. the image is very sharp. I like the down-looking posture.

Very nice image, Ray. I like the detail in the eye, even at this angle. Makes me lonely for the winter-when they stake out Texas.

Neat capture of a tough subject. I like the dark BG and posture of the bird, with the dangling feet. Good sharpness and nice light.

LIke the pose of the bird with the wing spread and the hanging feet. Larger version looks nice and sharp in the face. I also like the diagonal dividing line of the different colored BG trees.

Excellent lighting and detail against a great background. Not an easy shot to take.

Great light on the bird, and the harrier stands out well against this BG Ray.
Nice job getting it this sharp at 1/400th too..
Well done :toast:
