Fern

I noticed these ferns growing in my wife's flower garden and liked the curls and shapes they offered. The wind was to much to capture a clean shot so the next morning I thought I'd try my luck again, still too much wind. I picked one and brought it in the house and set it up in front of a black BG and side lit the fern by a window.

Canon 7D, Canon 100mm macro, 4sec, f/14,ISO 100, Aperture priority, RAW conversion.

Thanks for looking and all C&C welcomed.

Great shot, John! I have lots of ferns in my shade beds and keep trying to come up with interesting comps. This one is unique and superb! Also love the curls/shapes of the fronds, the colors, and lighting. I do find the little end of a fern at the top distracting. If that was cloned out plus a tiny bit more breathing room given above the top frond, this would be even better.

John:
Good eye to spot this. Interesting curls and lighting is good. Agree with Carolyn about the top bit - perhaps tie it back and retake would be faster than cloning. I am learning about Ikebana arrangement and for some reason odd number seem better; so a retake with only three leaves with more room at top may be the way to go.

Excellent comp, with the repetition of those beautiful curves.

Great job of turning the fern leaves into abstract art. The shapes and textures are great.

Yeah really like those curls and black BG. So many possible comps with other arrangements I would be "playing" for a long time.
