West Coast, New Zealand

Photographed on a stormy day during our workshop when we thought that an evening shoot was out of the question. At sunset, some small breaks in the sky gave it texture and the rain abated to some extent. Those who ventured out to photograph had a memorable time : the sound of the surf and storms around us created quite an atmosphere.

Canon 5D, 17-40mm.

Yes, this one reveals a great atmosphere. Photograph in these kind of conditions is it what make me alive, I can feel the sound of the sea, the spray on my lens and the wind. I like the contrast between the red seastar against the overall blue scene. Great cature Winnie.

Incredible image, Winnie! This makes me more determined to head for a rocky coastline somewhere in Europe this summer. The clouds add a lot of drama, the water, although shot at a long exposure gives a lot of dynamism with the help of the lines in the rocks. Love it!

This is a cracker... the wonderful red starfish add so much to this image, and contrast beautifully with the cool, blue tones.. The long shutter speed really works to mystify this more too...

Winnie,

I like your composition, shutter speed and mood on this piece. The rocks on the middle left look too dark and I could see selectively reducing the brightness of the surf. The sea stars almost look like little crabs and add a very appealing element to the scene. Honestly, I find your watermarks distracting, especially in the small version. Overall, a bold and dynamic image.

I'm a fan of your work and this image! Great job Winnie! Power and drama are well displayed here and the comp is nicely balanced making nice use of line. :toast:

My only thought would be to maybe dodge the upper left rock area a tad for a bit more balance there.

Well, i must confess I prefer this very much to a fiery sky...Tons of moods, this is what the ocean means for me, drama, mystery and cold. I love for this image the long exposure. Nice piece of work Winnie!

Really nice. I like how both the clouds and water splay outward from the middle of the image.

I have mixed feelings, mainly due to my bias against long ocean exposures (makes the water look like smoke; id prefer water). But aside from that bias, it has nice mood/atmosphere, and great comp with good use of thirds. My only real suggestion is maybe tweak the hue closer to blue (it looks greenish/cyan) :wavey:

Hi Winnie - I really like the mood and composition of this image. The misty water adds to the overall mystery and drama. I agree that the starfish are a great bonus. I agree with Stan that a slight color tweak towards blue would be one possible improvement to an otherwise compelling image.

What a rugged coast and your comp shows off that mood very well. Wonderfully put together Winnie
Love the blues as well.
Thanks for sharing
