Forres, Moray, Scotland

This must be what John's field looked like after a few glasses of pink champagne... The whole world looks rosier.

I found myself at the foot of a sloping field of straw bales which backed on to a glorious sunset sky. The simplistic composition was elegant and very pleasing to the eye. I also realised that I would see more than my camera was capable of recording without serious help from neutral density graduated filters which would compress the colossal dynamic range to manageable levels. The resulting long exposure shows the effect of cloud movement combined with a setting sun.

Very effective with the long exposure to blur the clouds! I like it a lot. Id go with thirds and crop the top. :toast:

Fantastic! A beautiful scene Ian and great work on the capture of this and use of GND filters. The colors are wonderful and amazing detail in the straw and bales, especially seen in the larger version which is awesome! I think Stans crop idea would work well here, but also love it as it is. :toast: :toast:

Ian,

Excellent clouds! I love how the "lines" of the foreground are repeated in the clouds--creates a very nice effect. Well Done!

A glorious image, Ian. I continue to enjoy your work so much. Consider me a fan!
This has such a nice sunset mood to it-- i.e., calming (even with all the brilliant color!), as if the Earth is settling for a night of rest but having one more quick fling before finally saying good night. I think that comes from not brightening the image as might be tempting to do. Love what the filters did for the exposure/movement in the clouds, which contrasts with the hay field so well.

Stunning photo Ian. The sky is magical, anchored well by the hay bales.

Fantastic long exposure, love the motion of the sky vs the stilness of the straw bales. Fantastic.

I think that cropping the top might make the sky too overwhelming. In any event the image is shockingly stunning, and your use of the GND filters is insidiously clever. Absolutely awesome. :toast:
