Though I have searched, I am still very unsure of the ID though have come to think it is of the "Erigeron" family. These bloom in mid to late summer at only one place on our property at the base of two very old Madrone trees. There are many blooms but they are not clustered, but have separate stems for each bloom. Bloom is approx 1" dia. Leaves are small and with very slight fuzz on leaf and stem. fuzz not hairs per se.

E-5. 50mm F2 macro
1.3 sec, @ F11, -0.3 EV
ISO 100
manual focus
tripod
very nearly full frame, crop left and right.

Large view provided

Thanks for comments.

Charlie:
Good plane of focus management here to get both the bloom and bud in focus. Like the wash in blur stem and clean bg. Nicely done and no suggestion.

New species to me. Well displayed against the BG.

This has a nice 3D effect. Excellent background color and bokeh and it sets off the flower really well.

Charlie, Great portrait. Like the V formed by the two stems and the shooting angle to bring the bloom and the bud in the right plane of focus.

Great work :toast:

Charlie,

Excellent capture in composition as well as isolating against a lovely and soft background. The only suggestion/critique I have is that if it were mine I would be tempted to boost the luminosity and contrast to make this little beauty pop just a bit more. And really, not all that much as I take another look; perhaps it's just the center of the flower and the yellows that could stand the punch. The white petals actually look pretty good. And the softness in the stem helps bring and keep attention to the flower itself, where it belongs. Nice job.

Great dof choice. The oof stem blends with the bg and puts the emphasis squarely on the bloom (where it should be) Can't help with the id, but it's a beautiful shot

Thanks all for comments and Lon you hit on the very thing I was not satisfied with on this shot. The flat yellow center of this flower. We are very dry here and these flowers bloom at the time of year which they always seem parched. I tried putting this in water hoping it would drink up and look a little more vibrant. I'm going to look into boosting "luminosity" and contrast and hopefully I can post an improved version.

Like the simplicity of the lines and the background. The whites look a little gray, would suggest brightening the image.

I'm glad for critiques that make me think and be more careful. I've worked a bit on this images and, I think, made significant changes, perhaps in ways that were not suggested. I may be happy if you like it this way, BUT if you don't, I'll be glad if you tell me.

Charlie,

Much improved, in all aspects - IMHO. And thanks for elaborating on the "parched" environment - I think that helps tell a lot about this flower and your capture.

Charlie,

Nice job on the repost. The adjustments really complement the DOF and your eye for composition.
