Autumn Serenity

A subtle pastel sky and autumn colors paint this peaceful scene on an unnamed lake in the northern part of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. We were hoping for a dramatic sunrise and alpenglow on Mount Sanford, but were disappointed. However, this scene really appealed to me as I searched the distant lake shore through the lens, and it seemed to convey a quieter, more peaceful beauty that can easily be missed under the commanding presence of a 16,237 foot mountain.

I'm wondering about your reactions to this image, so C&C is appreciated.

Canon 5DII. Canon 70-200/2.8. ISO 200. f/11. 1/10 s. CP. Single exposure. Please see LARGER VERSION.

You couldn't get much of a better title Doug, very serene. The reflection doubles the impact and the lines throughout add a nice flow to the image. Beautiful contrasting colors. I wouldn't change a thing. Well done!

A simple composition & clean flowing lines & colors contrasted by excellent minute detail in the tree line. It all comes together so very nicely! I love it and wouldn't change a single thing. Very well done, Doug :toast:

What a beauty Doug. I might darken the reflection a little bit, but other than that, this is perfection. Really, really like this!

Well its really quite simple, Doug--this is a great shot, but it would be a MIND-BLOWING AMAZING SUPER AWESOME shot if you just do one simple thing--crop for 50/50. Don't waste the incredible symmetry here--do the right thing, Doug

Such beautiful soft light. This is simple but its not, if that makes any sense at all. Love it!

I really like this image Doug. The simplicity is very appealing, the light is fantastic, and the contrasting cool blues with the golden shoreline is nicely done, The refelction and detail in the trees doesn't hurt either. Nice shot.

Lovely, Doug! The subtle autumn colors work very well with the pastel blue.
Thanks for posting the larger version. This would make a nice large print.
With the water so still, you have aptly titled the image.

Doug,

Late getting to this, but could not pass up to tell you that I think this is fantastic. I love the soft blue hues here and the symmetry of the reflection. A beautiful image.
