Red Rocks of Acadia

Here's another from the same morning as my Ghosts of Acadia post last week. This was after the most intense color had left the sky and the sun was up. I was thinking my shoot was over and about to head back up to the trail when I noticed the beautiful warm light bathing the foreground cobbles and cliffs. My other shots from this morning were much closer to the water and emphasized the wave action in the foreground. For this shot however, I opted to focus on the beautiful cobbles and found a perspective that also incorporated some longer, more triangular shaped rocks. I only managed to get a few frames before the sun went behind some low clouds and blocked the warm light. Thanks for looking.

Last year we took a trip to Maine and Acadia NP; the scenery with the cliffs, rocks, ocean is quite incredible. You have captured this beauty nicely with this photo. Wonderful comp, details, lighting, and colors. Beautiful capture, Kurt!

I really like the overall scene here Kurt. The lighting, exposure and general comp look great to me. I think my only nit though is that the sunstar is cutoff. I would have preferred to just exclude the sun all together and tilting to the left to show more of those warm cliffs, or a shift to the right to clearly have the sun in the shot. Hope that helps.

Beautiful beach scene. Love that rugged coast. You did a fine job showing off the boulders - I feel the same about the sun as mentioned earlier-either include the entire sun star or none. Great color in the clouds. I will check out your other Acadia shots- didn't see them yet.

Excellent color and rendition.
Might be a little dark for my taste but larger version would probably lighten this.
The flare of sun on the right is balanced by the light on the left--unique...

Hi Kurt,
I really like this idea, the half sun at the border is a very unique touch and I love it.

I like the FG rocks and the warm sunlight hitting them but find the sunstar distracting as is, I would have preferred either including the whole sun or not at all.

I like this even better, Kurt. The light and comp make for a very dramatic image.

Hi Kurt - The warm light on the cliffs is just wonderful. I also really like the composition and the mood conveyed in this image. The rocks in the foreground are really interesting, as well. While I like the sun, I think I also would like the image without it or with the full sun. Beautiful work.

Beautiful warm light on these rocks, Kurt and I am loving the forms and textures of these stones, especially in the FG. I would consider cropping out the sunstar entirely though as it seems (to me) to pull the eye away from the beautiful rocks and textures and forms and light. Either way though, great image.

Kurt, This is really wonderful light and color. I love the way the boulders look in this light! Very nice as you have it here, but for me maybe more of the sun or less of it. Either way this image has a wonderful feel and I do enjoy it very much! :toast:
