Immature Bald Eagles near Brooksville, Florida

1/2000 at f5.6 and ISO500
Canon 500mm with 1.4 TC
Canon 7D

The eagle on the bottom was sitting on a mound when the other approached him from above. For some reason that caused a ruckus as both eagles flapped wings and fussed at each other. The enocunter lasted just a few seconds and I didn't really see any contact. The action took place just a few feet off the ground and the intruding eagle eventually flew off.

I shot several frames and this was the best because with all the movement I can see the heads of both eagles. Unfortunately immature eagles are pretty bland and the eyes are duller compared to the adult.

Was a fun event to witness

Interesting action. In my shots of similar behaviors from eagles I'm seldom able to get a good look at the face of both birds like this. Seems slightly tight at bottom to me and I think we can already see some of the mound down there you refer to so I'm wondering about more room down there if you have it.

Scott, good job on capturing the action between the two eagles. I like the expression on the face of the lower eagle. I agree it could use a bit more space at the bottom, but still a fine image. Thanks for sharing.

Great shot! These juveniles are tough to shoot because of their color & it's a pity the BG is so similar in color to the birds. I very much like the action & poses.Perhaps a little more space at the bottom if you have it.
