Osprey at Week Wachee Preserve, Florida

1/2000 at f9 and ISO500
Canon 500mm
Canon 7d

I saw them building this brand new nest in the first week in February. The nest was not there last year. It was exciting to watch them haul in branches and moss to finish their home. I shared some of these pictures with you earlier.

Then on the 24th I went out to check their progress. The nest was on the ground. The branch had broken off either from a storm or from its own weight. I found the nest at the base of the tree.

I wasn't sure what they might do -- but I found them rebuilding their nest at the same spot a couple days later. This picture shows the male bringing a branch to new nest.

The story is not over yet. I've seen them mating and I will be hoping to hear the hungry cheeps of the little ones next month.

One of the best osprey images I've seen. Great job. I might give it moe room all around.

At least it fell before it was full of chicks, so they had a chance to rebuild!
Exceptional image - great wing position, wonderful head-on perspective, nice eye contact, fine detail and clean BG!
One small nit - I wish that stupid part of the branch wasn't there that looks like a third leg! With care, it could be cloned out..

Love that spread. Great view of the patterns on the undersides of the wings and tail.

The only thing that I'd consider doing differently is cropping the top of the image. The empty blue space above gives me a sense that the frame is unbalanced. If, say, the osprey were looking up and seemed poised to take off I could see how additional space above might give a sense of direction and anticipation of action, but in this case it feels a bit bottom-heavy.

Love the wingspread, detail and exposure here Scott. I'd take a little off the top and if you have more room on the bottom include it. :toast:

Interesting story and a wonderful image to go along. Great timing to get the wing spread and see all those feather patterns that make up each wing. Excellent shot, the larger image was a pleasure to view.

Nice shot. Good detail and nice wing position. I would crop a little bit more off the top.
