Gentle Spectacle VI: Fading In Raindrops

April first: A gentle shower makes sparkles on the surface of Lake George, but dims the brilliance of the scarlet flowers of red maple trees, and almost hides the form of Buck Mountain, fading into the raindrops.

This is another in a series of low-contrast, soft-color images that I enjoy in Nature, but don't make photographs that look spectacular, especially in thumbnails. Such images don't shout and grab your attention, but they hold my gaze if I take the time to look. I am always happy to see images like this among the more striking images that I also love to see.

Please look at the larger photograph. I'm afraid the small one just doesn't convey the feeling of this scene. It's all about the details and how they fade in the distance.

Looking at the big version is just so tranquil. Well executed, Wayne. Feels so New Englandy with the white pine and the mix of evergreens and deciduous trees. And love the sprinkles on the water and the misty mountains. Never been to Lake George but always pictured it as wall to wall camps and cottages. Nice that there are some peaceful spots there as well. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Wayne, you are right, the small version does not convey that feeling. I see exactly and feel exactly what you captured here. Very serene and can almost here the rain falling as the water laps lazily at the shoreline. Excellent!!

I like the mood and feeling of this image. The muted colors are very nice as is the composition. I spent 8 weeks on Cranberry Lake one summer many years ago and this image brings back good memories.

Awesome image Wayne. So peaceful.

P.S. Amazing that this is handheld, and from a canoe no less. Well done.

Beautiful shot, very peaceful. I agree with you completely that nature's serenity often doesn't translate well into a thumbnail for the web, yet many times it's the subtler images, such as this, that you look at again and again when hung on a wall.

It's definitely not your typical Landscape Wowzer
I like the balance a lot, and good mood. The problem for me is that im drawn to the bg hills--receding layers (the meteorologist in me can't resist) and I kind of ignore a lot of the surrounding stuff, almost seems wasted rather than supporting. Just not enough to pull me upstream, so to speak--a canoe in the water might have done the trick
