November Sky

This was taken last November looking across the Owens Valley, with the Inyo Mountains in the distance. The high winds that created these clouds also closed the highway we were on, so my daughter and I spent the evening in the Alabama Hills enjoying a nice sunset.
Thanks and comments welcome,
Rudy

very nice scene. to my eye the sky should be slightly brighter - i suspect that the polarizer has darkened the blues a little to much to my eye. still, very enjoyable.

Wonderful composition Rudy. I would expect the FG to a bit darker than it is.

I really like this shot Rudy. The clouds are amazing and I really enjoy the foreground colors and textures. The details in the sage/grasses almost look like brush stokes. Nice work :toast:

I agree with Stuart about the sky being a bit dark..it also looks a bit cyan for my tastes, at least on my monitor. I like the detail in the FG and how the colors compliment the clouds so nicely.

Thanks for the comments. I went back and forth many times between the brightness of the fg and sky prior to posting this, and this is something I often struggle with when blending exposures. This was taken at about a 90 degree angle from the sun, so the polarizer did have a strong affect on the sky.

The bottom two thirds of this image are absolutely wonderful! The top is neat as well, though I don't feel quite as strong as the rest.

Rudy, this is masterful! The processing + polarizer gives this image the feel of a painting. Love the clouds and the FG bushes.

I love it! How did you sit on this for 6 months?! For me the image is really about the clouds, but the foreground bushes balance everything very well.

Well composed, Rudy. I like the warm colors. The FG is good.
Of course, what makes this work is the sky. The lower cloud for-
mation looks like a volcanic eruption. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful capture. That sky is amazing. Did it light up anymore after sunset?

Well that's pretty freakin sweet. I keep not believing the colors in the fg but I've seen enough Owen's Valley pics to know that's how they are. Those tones in the bushes are crazy. The bottom 1/4 could be a photo on to itself. Sweet!

Very painterly image Rudy. Light in the foreground is gorgeous. I might be tempted to lighten the upper 3/4's just a bit, but maybe a matter of personal taste. Wonderful image overall I would say.

Rudy,

I hope I get some great skies like this when I go in May. I'll be ramblin' about the Alabama's for sure. This looks like the North end. It might be a little bright but if it was darker, people would comment on that it's hard to the find the right balance . I think brighter will have the broader appeal. Well done, makes me want to be there.

Very very nice! Love those clouds. The foreground works well, too. I'm partial to cropping offer top....maybe like 1/4 of it. I think Mark mentioned it, too. Anyways, this is just sweet to stare at. I've always wanted to see these clouds in person!!!! :toast:

Wow! The colors and subject are really nice. I'd definitely love to see more foreground, but am enjoying this as-is. Stunning scene, and BTW, well processed...
