Peonies for Me

by Gary Jacobson

Gallery: FloraPosted May 20, 2012165 views18 comments
I am a new member and this is my first post. Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon 100mm Macro Lens, Tripod, Mirror Lock-Up, Cable Release, 1600 ISO, F/5.6, and 1/10.

How cool is it to have a coworker that is a master gardener who selects flowers for me based on their photographic potential. I like to find a few nice petals that share the same focusing plane and then let the softness fall off gently. Let me know what you think of this image.

Thanks,

Welcome to NPN Jake. This is a very good entry. Even that the flora gallery is a right place I'd rather to see in the Photo Art gallery. You have posted here realy an excellent ARTWORK. My congratulations. :toast: :toast:

Beg to differ with Miro... this belongs in the flora gallery. No post processing just a great point of view that results in lovely lines and color blends. I love it! Well done. :wavey:

Splendid first post, Gary! I love the colors, the detailed area of sharpness, and the
dream-like softness. Looking forward to future postings.

Beautifully done, Gary ! Love how you have achieved a delicately coloured abstract quality without sacrificing the form of the flower ( through the hint of the centre ). Look forward to more !!

Gary: Welcome to NPN and to the finest Flora gallery on the planet. Marvelous color palette and I especially like your DOF/POF choice. This does work a little better for me with some cropped off the right side; perhaps to 5:4 ratio. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more.>=))>

Gary - Welcome to NPN. I hope you will enjoy your stay here.

What a superb shot to open your account !!. I enjoy making shots like these as well. I specially like the layers with a pinkish outline to them. I agree with Bill on the crop suggestion. The right side is a bit empty as presented.

Gary:
I like to add my welcome to NPN as well.

Fabulous semi-abstract with play of lines and colors. Almost like form going to emptiness of blue sky!

Look forward to seeing more of your post.

Welcome to NPN, Gary. Spectacular first post. The colors, lines and your dof choice are terrific. I do agree with Bill that the right side goes on a bit too far, but that's a very minor nit on a great picture.

Thanks for the excellent feedback on this image. I did crop a bit from the right side of the image and it did help to balance out the image. Thanks!
Peace,
Jake

Lovely take in pastel colors, soft focus, and just enough petal to leave the viewer wanting more.
