Monument Rocks - Storm

I took this about 40 minutes post sunset last weekend, after a storm cell had blown on by Monument Rocks NNL, western Kansas. I couldn't get closer (and be safe) in time to catch the lightning, so I had to crop this a little from both sides and the top. I know a more pano look will work also. The lightning is from the original exposure, including passing through the keyhole. I replaced the rocks with the rocks from a photo taken a couple minutes later from the same spot, as the original rocks were blurry. 7D, ISO 200, f/8, 13 sec. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

This is fantastic, and the bolt visible through the keyhole. Looks good to me, and the blend seems flawless...

How cool to get part of the lightning through the arch. Great job on the capture and processing.

This is just phenomenal Rob! Getting a bolt to show through the arch is one thing, but to have another such unique horseshoe-bolt in the sky too is downright amazing. I have to say I've never seen anything like this - in pictures, let alone anything like this first hand.

The amount of foreground here in inconsequential for me. This is just fantastic.

Perfect timing on this capture! Love that the lightning is visible through the keyhole. If this were mine I may consider cropping the foreground out as it doesn't add to the image. Nice work!

Your timing was perfect. Like how you left things dark - really feel the mood. Must have been something to witness.

Thanks everybody. This wasn't even the best lightning of the night, but I was out of position to capture any of it. I just barely made it in time to capture this image.

That loop of lightening is one of the neatest thing I've seen in a nature photograph. What a great catch.

Now that is a cool image! I really like the shape of the lightning bolt and how it is visible through the arch in the rocks. Very well done.
