This is a spring view of the Hawlings River as it runs through Rachel Carson Conservationn Park in upper Montgomery County, MD. While there is no classic "iconic scenery", it is an outstanding example of eastern woodlands. The river and trees offer beautiful scenes on a smaller scale (such as this) especially in spring and fall. It also offers an extensive collection of spring wildflowers plus I've watched Barred and Great Horned Owls as well as Mink and River Otters. This is a two shot composite using polarized (for the greens) and unpolarized (foreground reflections) images. (5D, 27-70 f2.8 @ 43mm, 1/10 s, f/16, iso 100, tripod)

Lovely scene, Mark! And typical eastern woodlands stream view as you indicated; this looks similar to the creek that runs behind our property. These areas are great for wildlife of all kinds; thus great for photographers too! I like your comp looking upstream. Your composite processing really helps highlight the wonderful spring colors of the greenery without sacrificing the great reflections in the stream.

Mark, well done IMHO! Gives me an idea for a similar area near me, but not much water in it right now. I to like how you handled the BG and the reflection. Thanks for sharing.

This looks like a great place to go crickin'. The reflections turned out very well.

The greens are vibrant and the reflections stand out well. Reminds me of when I was a kid walking down to the creek at my Grandfather's with a pole and some bacon to catch crawdads.

I love these local gems. We have lots of these pockets of conservation areas in our neck of the woods in W. Washington that have provided many satisfying photography hikes, as well. Your techniques for this image look spot on.
