Fire on the Mountain...

Took off for the mountain last night with high hopes, as I have been skunked there quite often over the years. Payback. There were not a ton of flowers yet but with the help of my buddy Paul Bowman, who found this bunch, we were able to get some nice shots. Thanks for looking!

5dmkii, 3 shots
2 shots for the forground at f16. One for the immediate fg and one for the mid fg.
1 shot at f11 for the valley and mountain.

Holy Schmidt this is incredible. There is a perfect balance of color, foreground, midground and background. You sure had some wonderful conditions up here. I hope I get some conditions like this in a few weeks. Any idea on what the wildflower status is in Rainier? I know this area blooms before but I checked the NPS site and it said some flowers were starting to peak. Anyways, great shot!

The overall mood of this shot is so peaceful. The warm red tones are powerful, yet calming.. Don't know how else to describe it. nicely captured. :toast:

Wow, I am super jealous Jeremy, those foreground flowers are awesome. While my dinner plans last night were fun, this would have been a better way to spend the evening.

Awesome work, man. Very classy, perfect blend and exposure. One of my favorite St Helens shot I've seen, partly because of all the valley you decided to include (rather than focusing solely on the wildflower foreground).

We've certainly had no shortage of nice skies around here the past couple weeks, huh? I'm going to try to head up to St Helens in the next couple weeks before leaving for the Midwest and Glacier.

Excellent composition, Jeremy. I like the repetition of color between the foreground flowers and the sunset sky. Your blend looks seamless and the processing looks good.

Boy, this has everything...color, depth, and that soft layer of clouds just adds to it perfectly. And the foreground flowers add the finishing touch to a stellar image.

Payback, indeed! Love the view overall and especially like the comp for the evening color, the fiery sky and foreground, and the layer of mist at the base of the mountain.

Absolutely sweet image and blend!!! Makes me want to go up there! :toast:

I think (at least on my monitor) that color could be pulled back a hair in the upper portion, less purple, and maybe in the red flowers. But that small personal preference aside, beautiful as it stands.

I've seen a bunch of these classic shots this year, and they're all pretty darn colorful and nice. The slight layer of smoke in this one adds some depth. I gotta say though, I haven't shot wildflowers and sunsets all year because we're just seeing so much stuff like that now it definitely does loose some of the allure for me, especially since it's mostly the same places shot in such similar style.

Love the f/g and sky and haze, but the middle bare area takes my eye to it and away from all the beauty.

Looks like everything came together for this one! I take the point that the midground looks kind of bare between the best stuff but without it the sense of depth would no doubt be diminished.

Your development of the foreground paintbrush is very nice and compliments the sky well. Could you have taken a different position or height to reduce about 1/4 of the the midground?

I like this very much, Jeremy. Following the rule of thirds has worked well here.
Your blending has eveything sharp on my monitor. Great colors. You found a
wonderful composition under optimal lighting conditions.

This is beautiful Jeremy. Nice job blending all of the shots. Couldn't ask for a nicer sunset, and the extra bonus of the flowers puts this over the top for me.

I agree, this is one of the best from the area I have seen. Congrats, and you should thank your buddy.
On my monitor it looks like the color is a bit strong in the left portion of the sky.
