Prairie Sunrise

One thing I like about living on the prairies is you can see the sunrises and sunsets. Many times there are spectacular cloud formations that make the sky striking. You can shoot the sky at the same place several times and it is always different. That is the way it was this morning. This is one of the ones I took this morning that I like. It was taken at Buffalo Creek Wildlife Management Area. Thanks for your comments and critiques, they are always appreciated.

Canon 40D
Sigma 17-70
All settings on Manual
Shutter 1/10
Aperture f20
ISO 100
17mm
Tripod and shutter release
Color correction and exposure correction in PSE9. My GND filter has finally gone to pieces, so it was hard to capture the contrast well in one image. This was shot in RAW so I could draw detail and color out of the darker parts of the image.

I like this a lot! This pulls the viewer right to the center and certainly has me enjoying the prairie look...simplicity and that sage scent.

I like the "Godbeams" and the expanse of the prarie you show here. A beauty unto itself.

Awesome crepuscular rays Richard. You are right about the prairies, totally agree and this is an area I've wanted to check out myself. Seeing as you are in NE I can't wait to see some supercell shots from you next year.

You captured some extraordinary light here, Richard. I live in the Texas Panhandle and agree with your assessment of the sunrises and sunsets on the plains. They can be extraordinary - except the clouds seem to disappear when I show up!!

It looks like your clouds were more cooperative, though, and you have an interesting foreground to compliment the scene.

One of your best ever! My new favorite. This is beautiful front to back, top to bottom. Great job on the processing, too

That's exactly what I like about the desert too, Richard. The unobstructed horizon helps me tune in to the light that's happening. It's nice that you were able to find a good foundation for the clouds.

That's a glorious sunrise both in the sky and the land. I like how both the ravine and the crepuscular rays lead to the same area.
