Pele's Dream

Halemaumau Crater, home of Madame Pele and her lava pit. A perfect night out shooting the Milkyway last night. Had a chance to explore down to the crater and it is a crazy place to be.

F2.8 30sec for the stars and F4.0/45sec for the crater. ISO 1600,

Looks like the edge of Hell.
Quite the contrast and also metaphysical and religious. Heaven and Hell in one photo.
The ISO worked well as did the composite.

Wow! Sensational image, Tom. Light control works to perfection here and the subjects are really unique to me.

AS EPIC AS IT GETS! One of the most beautiful and epic shots I have ever seen in my lifetime! :toast: :toast: :toast:

I do wish for a hair more shadow detail near the crater. BTW, maybe you should tell them about how this was the scariest lava image you have ever shot due to its danger level. Like how just the gasses can drop a man in an instant, dead! Or how it can blow lava for miles at any moment! I'm packing my bags for Hawaii again!

Very cool photo with the combination of the crater and the milky way in the same composition. Nicely done.

Just love how the Earth and sky are blended here as to almost be one element. There is a sense of being present at the creation of the solar system. Quite a remarkable image.

Great concept, capture and blend, letting the milky way shine through the glow from the crater. How neat to get down to the crater...we could get close in 2010.
